Pests on Your Christmas Tree
Nothing gets you in the holiday spirit like the smell of a fresh cut evergreen tree. But did you know that when you bring that fresh cut tree into your home you could also be inviting spiders, beetles, mites and aphids for the holidays!
To ensure unwanted holiday guests don't invade your home:
- Shake the tree vigorously to dislodge any spiders and insects
- Check the branches for signs of egg cases and remove those branches
- Remove any bird's nests since they can contain mites
Most importantly, do not spray your tree with aerosol pesticides. These products are highly flammable and can do more harm that good! Most insects will die within days due to lack of food and will fall from the tree and can be vacuumed up.
Also, don't forget to check holiday decorations containing dried flowers or potpourri. Make sure to tightly seal all those goodies and leftovers to prevent roaches and rodents from having a holiday feast of their own! Remove trash nightly, if possible.
Make sure the only guests you have for the holidays are invited!
Contact your local HomeTeam Pest Defense branch and schedule a thorough inspection of your home and perimeter before the holiday season begins.
