Spiders
Spider... just the word makes us shiver! Although only two species groups are poisonous to humans, you'll still want to keep spiders under control at your house.
Good Spiders
• Feed on bugs from cockroaches to crickets
• Reduce pests in gardens and homes
Bad Spider: The Black Widow
Remove or change stagnant water at least once weekly in:
• Females have poisonous, but not deadly, bite
• Red hourglass shape on females' backs
• Bites are pale with a red ring
• Other symptoms: weakness, nausea, difficulty breathing
Bad Spider: The Brown Recluse
• Dark brown violin marking on back
• Painful bites create a ulcerating sore
• Blister bite surrounded by red and white rings
• Itchy, red rash and symptoms within
24-48 hours
No Spiders
• Use care when moving stored items
• Watch for spiders in closets, corners and cellars
• Keep porch and patio areas clean and swept
• Seal around doors and windows to prevent entry
